On I went, out of the wood, passing the man leading without knowing I was going to do so. Flip-flap, flip-flap, jog-trot, jog-trot, curnchslap-crunchslap, across the middle of a broad field again, rhythmically running in my greyhound effortless fashion, knowing I had won the race though it wasn't half over, won it if I wanted it, could go on for ten or fifteen or twenty miles if I had to and drop dead at the finish of it, which would be the same, in the end, as living an honest life like the governor wanted me to. -Alan Sillitoe, "Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner"

Life gets in the way!

Busy, busy, busy, busy.

I really hate it when I can't do things like blog about running because of things like commitments and obligations and real life (non-running) stuff.

I'll be back before you even have a chance to miss me - hopefully within a week? Pretend I'm on vacation or something. Yes. A nice, lovely, relaxing vacation. I'm sitting by a pool or a beach with a drink. It's totally not true unfortunately, but let's pretend.

My last "relaxing" vacation. Less than 12 hours later Cairo was on fire.

  1. Everything okay? I saw on TM that you're cancelling races. Very uncharacteristic of you.

  2. Thanks, Mike, I'm okay. I know - I'm usually much more likely to half-ass a race than to DNS, eh? ;)

I'm wavering on the Monkey because of scheduling, and I'm on the fence about Yonkers because it's just so stupid early (they can't transfer my registration to the half, annoyingly - and since I only paid like $25 to register for it, it might be easier to just bail on the race than to do the full un(der)prepared.

  3. I know how you feel! I know things are getting bad when I have to start scheduling things like breakfast and showering. Just keep trudging onward...you'll make it out alive!

  4. I hope things slow down soon! Being crazy overbooked is the worst!

Thanks for your informative comment on my giveaway! The comments section has gotten a little insane, so I really appreciated you explaining that!

  5. That's surprising about Yonkers...I assumed you could transfer with no issue, which I was thinking of doing. I do think its still going to be hot in September, so that is probably why its an early start. I will probably skip it it then, I definitely don't want to risk injury 6 weeks before NYC.

  6. Aron, you might be able to transfer yours. Since I used a coupon, the registration for the full was actually cheaper than the half, which is why I signed up for the full. I'm also quite sure that you would be able to simple stop at the halfway point, that is if you have any self-control (which I'm not sure I do).
